Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez sat down with Celebuzz! to discuss her plans for the upcoming year and how she gets herself ready for competition.

She’s no stranger to winning, both in the gym and on the dance floor, and this young athlete is ready to take on any challenge that comes her way! Keep reading to find out how she uses mantras to encourage herself, and what she’s doing to get ready to qualify for Tokyo.

Laurie Hernandez went for gold in 2016 as a part of the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics team. She is a two-time medalist, winning the team gold and individual silver on the balance beam at the Rio Olympics.

The 19-year-old was in the competing mood in 2016, as she also won the coveted Mirror Ball trophy on Dancing With the Stars with partner Val Chmerkovskiy.

So she’s no stranger to being a winner, but what helps her get there? Laurie sat down with Celebuzz! to talk about her goals for the future and how she plans on achieving them!

Laurie is partnering with Alcon DAILIES Contact Lenses, and is launching their “Eye Can, Eye Will” mantra campaign to motivate people to dream big and focus on their goals. We asked her what drew her to this partnership, and how she uses mantras in her daily life.

“Their new campaign of ‘Eye Can Eye Will,’ it has spoken to me through mantra making and confident self-talk. In 2016 I had the mantra of ‘I got this’ right before I competed,” said the gymnast.

“I’ve used mantras for a little while now, for a couple years throughout gymnastics…It’s given me a lot of confidence in gymnastics, but I’m still getting nervous before competitions,” Laurie confessed. “So mantras were a way for me to calm down and take a deep breath to really reset my confidence.”
