Months before his death, George Michael appeared overweight and unrecognizable, judging by the last known pictures of the late pop icon.
The shocking images of Michael showed him with a bloated face and heavy frame.
The troubling snaps, posted by The Sun and Mirror tabs in London, were reportedly taken on Sept. 14 when a drawn and tired Michael went out to dinner with friends near his home in Oxfordshire.
A rep for Michael couldn’t be immediately reached for comment on Monday after citing “heart failure” as his general cause of death on Sunday.
Michael, who’d growing increasingly reclusive in the past few years, had long struggled with marijuana abuse — at one point smoking 25 joints a day.
And at one point last year, Michael checked himself into the famed Swiss rehab clinic Kusnacht Practice.
In Michael’s last extended interview, back in 2014, he recalled a close brush with death in 2011 when he underwent a tracheotomy in Austria due to near-fatal pneumonia.
“Yes, it almost killed me,” he told the Ham & High newspaper. “On a subconscious level it was very frightening and I’ll probably never feel quite as safe again. But oh my God, I was just so grateful to come out alive and very happy to get back to my home in London.”
Michael once told BBC radio that his affinity for drugs and sex never seemed to derail his music — even if it should have.
“But my career just seems to right itself like a plastic duck in a bath and, in some ways, I resent that,” Michael once said.
