Okay, so in case you were totally off the internet Sunday, June 30th, a LOT went down between Taylor Swift and basically the entire music industry. The singer took to social media to post a scathing response to the recent purchase of her entire music catalog, and in the process brought up plenty of old andew feuds, including her infamous fight with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, calling out Justin Bieber, and more… seems like there’s still a lot of bad blood based on this post!
So in short, Scooter Braun purchased Taylor Swift’s entire music discography for $300, which she apparently found out from the news. On Tumblr, Swift wrote that she was “grossed out” by the idea of Braun owning her music. This happened when Braun (whose clients include Kanye West, Justin Bieber, and Ariana Grande) purchased the “You Need To Calm Down” singer’s former label, Big Machine Label Group.
“Scooter has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy,” Swift wrote. “Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it.
“For years I asked, pleaded for a chance to own my work,” she continued. “Instead, I was given an opportunity to sign back up to Big Machine Records and ‘earn’ one album back at a time, one for every new one I turned in.”
She added that Braun, in particular, owning her catalog was a “worst-case scenario,” stating that when she learned about the deal, “all I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years.”
